Did You Know: Fashion Markets

My students ask about this all the time. I thought it may be common knowledge and I'm sure a bit of it is. But I want to be sure we understand about the stores and brands that we support. Marketing teams target certain customers and group us into segments. These are also known as markets. I put them in order of hierarchy so you can see just where your coins fall. Are you better than you think? Or are you just ready-to-wear? LOL.

Haute Couture

Haute Couture is limited to syndicate members producing made to measure pieces. They hold license in Paris. Their design houses are located there and usually are managed by a couturier with years of experience. This is so exclusive that only a small percent of the world's population can afford it.

Designer

Well known, well established brands that have labored in the industry for years...Designer markets have a following and secure customer base. True some of the designers are still living but all have brands that succeed them well after death. Their garments are reminiscent of couture with inspiration and detail but fall at a lower price point. Don't weep for their pockets though. These designers make enough to go global. Often, they have items in other genres such as furniture, bedding and even restaurants.

Luxury

Luxury is more of a brand that has no "face". With many designing for it, luxury is a lifestyle brand that supplies an image customers want to feel.

Bridge

Many people want the real designer purses and clothing. Knock-offs are selling out of trunks and in the stock rooms of accessory stores in every city. Bridge is a lower price point of a designer label. Still the essence of the brand but with much more affordable garments to obtain.

Better

This is the lowest market that a designer will go. Most children's wear stops here because a child grows too fast for a middle class family to logically afford high priced clothing excessively.

Contemporary

Super trendy and fashion forward. Still great quality. Need I say more? Well, I will say that these contemporary garments are not classic staples rather trendy in the moment fun garments. This allows the price point to drop a bit. Just a bit.

Moderate

This would be considered average prices. These brands can be recognized and respected as quality clothing. Its difficult to define exactly since many stores carry items that border this price point.

RTW

Ready to wear. This means that most thought isn't put into the design as much as the accessibility. The quality is usually substituted for quantity. Actually, RTW is readily available and at your local mall right now, haha.

Budget or Mass Market

Think cheap. They call it Fast Fashion now. But it means cheap clothes quickly.

Discount

There are two kinds of discount goods. The first kind are produced specifically for the discount market, usually low quality throw away type items. Some items produced for discount are known designer names who’ve over licensed their brand.

Summer is here. We have 92 days of vacay. Let's keep it simple. Here is my list of summer essential items. .. necessary for any out of town trip. Do you use any of these?

1. Perfume, not toliet water. My choice is Gucci Premiere. It smells expensive and lasts long so I don't have reapply as much.

2.  Jeweled Headband. When you're in the water the last thing you want to think of is being cute. Lol, who am I kidding. This sits on your forehead and sparkles in the sun effortlessly. No thinking required.

3. Miraculous Dry Body Oil by Victoria's Secret is perfect for moisture right after a shower. Here's a plus, it's supermodel approved! Also rub in between your thighs so you don't get friction or dark spots in your inner legs.

4. Concealer. Doesn't matter what kind, just use it please. Your eyes tell your soul. .. Not to mention your age. My choice is Physicians Formula in Nude Glow simply because the package is pretty.

5. Milani Baked Blush is radiant on the skin especially in the sun. I like it because you can't tell it's makeup. This is only optional if you don't want to be flawless.

6. Lips need Gloss. How can you selfie without it? I have two options packed: sheer and color. My sheer is a Victoria's Secret VS Pro illuminating gloss. It is amazing! I use it alone or over a lipstick and it gives me a new color each time. Oh, and the reflection off the sun is so sexy. You gotta try it. Now, my color is also VS Color Drench for more defined lip shape when I need it.

7. Lotion before or after a shower and/or water contact is essential. Nobody wants to be ashy! Oil of Olay has a Quench line that I use.

8. Aviator Sunglasses are universal for all face shapes. The new trend is a mirrored look. Try this out on the beach and see what you reflect.

9. Aftersun Nourishing Spray from Victoria's Secret is so refreshing. It's light and smells fragrant of the beach. After a pool dip, this is my go-to product.

10.  Diamond Studs and Necklace. I don't like to carry too much and extra accessories tend to get lost or forgotten. It just seems like I don't have time to change up when I'm vacating. So, I just use the classic set each time.

11. Midi Rings are fun and girly. Keep a set nearby just in case you want to flex. Makes for great pictures and they are inexpensive so you can lose them by accident without freaking out.

12. Wax Much? Please don't be that girl. Razors. Any kind that has sharp blade to touch up your situation.

13. Bronzer. My fave is Inglot's AMC bronzing podwer. It's an essential because it provides an effortless shine to the skin and it has glitter! I also have Bronzer from VS because I'm obsessed with their products.

14. Eye drops and BB cream can never hurt. Throw them in the bag as back ups.

15. Beach Love liquid all over body Bronzer is my excuse to wear a bikini. It smoothes every wrinkle and glosses my skin.  Bonus is the yummy beach sand scent.

16. Rose Gold studded watch by Guess. I need this to monitor the many "happy hours" while out of town.

Did I miss anything? XOxo, Mondaystyle

I decided to try out this trade concept at Plato's closet. Follow my journey as I explain the process and experience the vibe there. Then stay tuned at the end for my personal uncut opinion. Keep in mind that I speak to the Dolls who want to hear the truth about fashion and deals, lol. No worries, it's worth a watch.
Google+ does these awesome movies when you upload your images and video. To my surprise, Google made a really nice vlog for me to share. So, I shared my link with you, Dolls. I can't take credit but the presentation is cute. After you watch mine you can make your own. Good luck.
