Learn to modernize your favorite garment with low cost ideas
Ever since they were invented by Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss in 1873, jeans have been an integral part of our society. Fashion embraced this material in several facets over the years. We have witnessed some denim tragedies as well as denim must haves! Luckily we salvaged the best of the best. We all should have a denim jacket for a quick warm hug on a cool night. Lets look at three ways we can update our faithful jean jackets before they end up in the donation bin.
1. Em·bel·lish·ment
If you want low maintenance and little investment, adding to your jacket is easy and breezy. This is a perfect opp to add your signature to your garb. You can use patches that express fun statements that you may not say in real conversation. When adding the embellishments remember to think color scheme. You don't want to look like an old tacky bumper sticker...but patches are just the beginning. You can add sparkly rhinestones, a decorative brooch or even iron-on letters. Whatever it takes to make your statement.
2. Rip1 & Cut
Sometimes the best way to make something new is to change the silhouette. This can be tricky so beware. If you cut too much it can be a bit drastic so the best way to proceed is to mark first. Make measurements and use a mirror to guesstimate how the final design may look. I love magazines for inspo. When all else fails just rip it! Now the science to ripping denim is using a tiny cut first and then let her rip.
3. Dye
Even a novice can figure out how to dye denim. The simple and carefree way to remove the color is with bleach. Then you can add RIT dye or fabric paint. Its important to remember that you need a direction or inspiration. Use blogs, magazines and visual trends to help guide you.

I'll try to add patches to my jacket. H&M sells individual patches for this kind of stuff.
